Bannu Lawyers Boycott WAPDA Cases to Protest Against Load Shedding; Karak Residents Also Protest Load Shedding

Lawyers on Thursday announced to boycott cases of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in protest against 16 to 20 hours load shedding in the district.

At a demonstration organized by district bar association, the lawyers chanted slogans against WAPDA and demanded the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the district.

District Bar Association President Waseem Khan and other, including Prizada Dilfaraz, Taj Muhammad, Umar Zada and Nisar Khan spoke on the occasion.

They also appealed to the legal advisors of WAPDA to support district bar association in the protest.

They accused the WAPDA officials of carrying out excessive load shedding for up to 20 hours although, claiming the line losses in the district were low and recovery was high.

They threated to register cases against WAPDA if power supply was not restored.

Meanwhile, enraged people of Soorani tribe took to the streets and blocked Bannu-Kohat Road for all kinds of traffic. They complained of over 20-hour load shedding on a daily basis.

Separately, villagers in Ghoriwala subdivision threatened to attack the grid station if uninterrupted power supply was not insured to them.

The residents of Rehmatabad and adjacent localities staged a sit-in outside the power grid station against excessive load shedding in the Karak district.

The protestors chanted slogans against the government for its failure to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people of the province.

In the scorching heat, the protestors marched towards power grid station and staged a sit-in there. They said the federal government had already announced that no load shedding would be carried out during Iftar, and Sehr but that announcement was not being honored.

The protestors resolved to continue the protest on a daily basis if the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) failed to address the issue.

Later, District Police Officer, Karak, Mian Naseeb Jan, intervened and assured the protestors of a meeting with the PESCO high-ups to resolve the issues talks. The protest ended after the DPO assurance.
