A powerful all-round display by talented Ali Nadeem and timely superb fifty by skipper Moeid Shaikh helped Classic Club to lift Islamabad Cricket Association T20 Championship by defeating Diamond Club by 5 wickets here at Diamond Club Ground on Sunday.
Classic were down at 23-3 in first 6-over powerful play when skipper Moeid hit a powerful 38-ball 59 with 9 fours and one six and it was then left to Nadeem who blasted an unbeaten 22-ball 46 to land Classic home in fourth ball of the last over.
Diamond Club set a robust target of 165-7 with Mohammad Nadeem hitting up 40 off 21 balls. However, it was young Zohaib Qureshi who hit a 53 off 38-ball. Ahmed Abbasi scored a quick-fire 25.
Bowling at medium-pacer Nadeem chipped in 4 wickets and was well deserved to be man of the match. Speedster Farooq Qureshi claimed 2-32.
In its turn to achieve the target, classic lost 3 wickets within first 6 overs of power-play. However, Moeid and Nadeem snatched away victory from Diamond’s jaws which was almost set to win the game.
Courageous batting both by Moeid Sheikh and Nadeem made Diamond at its wits’ end.
Classic achieved the target in 19.4 overs. Atta-u-Rehman took 2-16.
