Punjab Blues Becomes 1st Champion of 1st National U-18 Hockey Championship

An early blitz helped Punjab Blues overwhelm KPK Colours 3-1 to land the national under-18 hockey championship title at the Naseer Bunda Ground on Wednesday.

In front of capacity crowd at small Bunda Ground, Punjab Blues unleashed series of attacks to unsettled series of attacks to unsettled KPK defense.

Following the repeated attacks, Waseem Akram cashed in on beautiful one-two combination from the right flank to put his team 1-0 up in the first quarter.

By the time the match entered the second quarter, Punjab were seen all over KPK. Ahmed Nadeem doubled the lead in the 23rd minute with beautiful combined move with Waseem.

A minute later Muhammad Ilyas third goal for Punjab blues from penalty stroke. He neatly converted the stroke to take the final beyond KPK Colours.

Though KPK tried hard to narrow the gap, it was always difficult to bounce back from three goals deficit.

Khairullah netted late foal for KPK to reduce the margin. However, no further goal could be added giving Punjab an easy win at the end.

Earlier, for the third position play-off Punjab Colours overwhelmed Punjab Whites 4-1 to claim the third position.

Federal Minister for CAD Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary was the Chief Guest who awarded trophies and medals to the leading finishers.
