KPK Colours and Punjab Blues checked into final of national under-18 hockey championship following exciting victories in the semi-finals here at Naseer Bunda Ground Tuesday.
In an intriguing second semi-final, KPK Colours overcame Punjab Whites on penalty shootouts to take the honors of playing the final.
Punjab took the lead at the outset with Waqas Ali placing himself in right position for opener. Talented Zakir then netted the equalizer in the 26th minute.
Despite all-out efforts no team succeeded in breaking the deadline and the matter was then decided on penalty shootouts.
Scheduled time saw both teams getting locked 1-1 each. The matter was then decided on penalty shootouts with KPK getting better of Punjab Whites with a better strategy.
KPK Colours scored thrice on penalty shootouts with goal coming from Roman, Khairullah and Yasir.
For Punjab, only Waqas Ali succeeded in scoring on penalty shootout.
Earlier, in the first semi-final, Punjab Blues edged out Punjab Colours 3-2 to make it to the final.
For Blues, Waseem Akram (32nd minute), Nadeem Mubashir (35th minute) and Ilyas (57th minute) scored a goal each.
Ali Aziz scored a brace, netting first in 22nd minute and adding his second in 33rd minute. It was Colours who took the lead through well directed conversion from Ali.
Waseem Akram responded with top of the striking circle goal. Ali again put his team 2-1 up this time defeating an easy opportunity. Nadeem Mubashir and Ilyas added two in succession to win the game for Blues.
Federal Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary would be guest of honor on the final today (Wednesday).
